New Year, Same Resolutions?

Happy 2016! Another year has come to a close and here we are beginning a brand new chapter. I love the feeling of a new year- you get to set goals, intentions and thoughts on what you want the next 365 days to look like.

How many of you set New Years Resolutions? Are they different or pretty much the same each year?

One of the most common resolutions is to lose weight. Those two little words “lose weight” can cause so much stress and anxiety for people. I wanted to share some thoughts on resolutions and hopefully helping you get a better handle on how to set goals for this new year and keep them!

If your goal is to exercise more: What does that look like? So many people join a new gym on January 1- but that doesn’t mean that the workouts will just happen. Get prescriptive! Here is what I mean: I am going to work out 2 days a week for 30 minutes in the morning- either walking or doing some light weights at home/gym. Give yourself a measurable goal to work towards and you will be more likely to achieve it.

If your goal is to eat healthier try flipping your perspective on things. Instead of focusing on all the foods you want to remove from your diet- try focusing on all the healthy foods you want to try and add in. Don’t go into the new year in deprivation mode- think of it as adding new, colorful, delicious and nourishing foods to your existing plates. My guess is you are are going to want to try these new foods first and fill up on the “old” foods second.

If your goal is to make more time for yourself really do that! It is OK to say no to things in your life that don’t serve you. A dinner date, a social function, anything. If it isn’t going to bring you happiness and joy really look at if you need to be there. Then, make a “dream list” of the activities or things you want to do more of in 2016 that will make you happy! Focus on your top two first- and see how it goes.

I hope that this helps you to define what you want to do in the new year to help make yourself your happiest and healthiest!

And, as always, I am here to support in any way I can! If you have health goals and need  extra support, guidance and accountability- don’t hesitate to reach out. Nothing makes me happier than helping someone become the very best version of themselves- it is a joy to be a health coach!

Happy 2016- wishing you all nothing but the best!
