Recipe: The Frosty
By now I am sure you all have realized I have a love of turning some of my favorite desserts and treats into superfood smoothies. It is so much fun to create a healthified version of the sweets I ate growing up- no deprivation!
When I was little we would travel from Atlanta to Pittsburgh in a day- all 5 of us packed into our station wagon for a 12 hour voyage to our home state. You guys know there are slim pickings when it comes to food on a road trip and one favorite of my sister and I was a Wendy’s Frosty with Fries. We would dip the fries in the Frosty and it would be heaven!
My superfood Frosty recipe has all the sweet, that little salty that I would totally miss from my fries and is packed with all things healthy, nourishing and good for you. Feast your eyes on “The Frosty”
The Frosty
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk (any nut milk works here)
- 2 bananas, frozen
- 1/2 Tbsp. raw cacao
- 1/2 Tbsp. organic coconut butter
- 1 Tbsp. Barney Butter “Bare” Almond Butter
- 1/2 tsp. maca powder
- 5 ice cubes
- himalayan pink salt
Directions: Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender. Top with a sprinkle of pink salt and raw cacao if you want.
I love that the maca adds a great malty flavor that you get from traditional milkshakes or Frosty’s- and the benefits are through the roof.
Make sure you use raw cacao in this smoothie- raw cacao is the purest form of the cocoa bean. It is thought to be the highest form of antioxidants in any food- and is Whole30 approved!
Just for fun I wanted to compare how my version stacked up nutritionally against a real Wendy’s Frosty. Here is the breakdown:
B.B. Wellness Frosty:
- 358 calories
- 18 grams of fat
- 22 grams of sugar
- 50 grams of carbohydrates
Wendy’s Frosty (large):
- 580 calories
- 14 grams of fat
- 80 grams of sugar
- 96 grams of carbohydrates
There you have it! If you are in search of a delicious smoothie- that is Whole30 approved- look no further. This smoothie will knock your socks off!
Cheers to your health (and not missing a thing!)
