Recipe: Matcha Avocado Smoothie

I am in the middle of a love affair with Matcha. I have been enjoying homemade Matcha Smoothies and Matcha Lattes- and am hooked!

Matcha is a powdered green tea- harvested by hand in Japan. It is the only form of tea in which the whole leaf is consumed and is high in dietary fiber, yet practically calorie free.

There are a long list of health benefits with Matcha. I love that it provides me with a calm energy- not a jittery energy like I get with the caffeine in my coffee. It is high in antioxidants, slows the aging process (yes, please!!) and detoxifies the body.

I love when something tastes so delicious and packs such a nutrient dense punch.

I have been playing around with a Matcha Smoothie recipe for a while and I got it just right this week. I wanted to share it with you all before the holidays- it is the perfect breakfast the morning after a late night, indulging in food and drinks. This Matcha Avocado smoothie will make you feel like Superwoman (or man 😉

This smoothie has a subtle sweet flavor, richness from the avocado (this healthy fat also keeps you full for longer so I enjoy this as a meal) and the lemon juice provides the perfect balance to the Matcha. It is also Vegan, Gluten Free and Whole30 approved!

Matcha Avocado Smoothie

2 cups Unsweetened Almond Milk (any nut milk will work here)

1 large frozen Banana

1/2 of a ripe Avocado (flesh only)

1.5 teaspoons of Matcha

2 teaspoons of freshly squeezed Lemon juice

1/2 cup of Ice

Instructions: Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Sip, enjoy and conquer the world! Ha!

I love this Matcha: Screen Shot 2015-12-24 at 5.13.01 AM

I hope you enjoy this recipe- it was a fun one to create and I love being able to share it with you all. Happy holidays! I hope that this season brings you all wonderful memories and lots of laughter.

See you in 2016!
